THE ORLANDO GIBBONS PROJECT: CROWDFUNDING HAS JUST STARTED RUNNING UNTIL OCTOBER 10TH Your help would be hugely appreciated and plenty of rewards are available! I hope you will excuse me writing to you about what may appear to be simply another private project trying to get your attention, but I do feel that it is one that is of importance to all who enjoy playing great English viol consort music. All of us who have ever played the magnificent Fantasies and In Nomines of Orlando Gibbons know what a superb instrumental composer he is. Many others know him as an exceptional writer of vocal music but may never have heard his viol consorts. The remarkable thing about his consort verse anthems is how those two worlds are brought together. This November, the viol consort Fretwork, as part of its 30th anniversary celebration, will be making the first complete recording of this music. You can read all about the project here: http://www.orlandogibbonsproject.com and here: https://www.facebook.com/OrlandoGibbonsProject/ We want more viol players to have the opportunity to take part in performance of masterpieces such as This is the record of John and See, see, the Word is incarnate as well as several other Gibbons anthems that have scarcely ever been heard. In drawing attention to this magnificent but still neglected repertoire, we hope that we may encourage many more singers to look for consorts with whom to combine, and you can help us do that. Our project is very expensive - well over £30,000, since it involves several of the UK’s leading specialist singers and performers of early 17th century music, because we are presenting the music in a much more intimate and detailed way than the traditional choral manner. Our fundraising is going well, but now we really need your help to complete it. There are just 3 weeks in which to do that.
